What Mattress is Best for my health?

Ogden Massage and Bodywork Video #26:

In this video, Heidi discusses what mattress you should get.

My mattress is an off brand that has foam and box springs and five or six different layers, and that’s what works for us, but I don’t recommend a specific bed.

I recommend that you go to a mattress store and hang out there for a whole afternoon or an evening and lay on all the beds. Most people will lay down on a bed in the mattress store and go, “Oh, okay, I don’t like this one” or they’ll lay down just for a couple minutes and either think, “Oh, this is great” or “It’s not.” But when you really lay down and get comfortable for 20 or 30 minutes on a mattress, you start to realize, “Oh, when I lay on this one, I start to get a pain in my hip or my upper back just doesn’t feel comfortable on this bed.” So you’re able to get a much better feel for what works for you.

My husband and I have very different needs for our mattresses, so we had to go in the middle with one, and that ended up working out really well for us. I hear a lot of people like the gel mattresses or the Tempur-Pedic mattresses. Frankly, they’re out of a lot of people’s price ranges, so if you can afford something like that and you like it… but some people get the foam mattresses and they realize six months into it that was a huge mistake or something just doesn’t jibe with their body. So, really, I just recommend that you hang out in a mattress store for a long time.
